The open sea in Sea of Conquest is far more than a travel corridor between ports. It is a living game space filled with random encounters, drifting objects, and NPC vessels that reward attentive captains with extra resources, rare loot, and experience. Players who actively patrol the sea map — rather than simply sailing preset trade routes — benefit from a wide variety of additional income streams, including the mysterious Drifting Bottle, which appears at random positions on the sea map and yields unknown treasure when collected.
Sea encounters fall into four main categories: drifting objects (bottles and debris), NPC merchant ships, smuggler vessels, and sea creatures. Each category offers distinct rewards and requires a different tactical approach.
Drifting Bottles are rare, randomly spawning collectibles on the sea map. They appear without warning at shifting locations, visible as small glowing objects on the map. Their contents are randomly generated and may include resources, equipment pieces, speedup items, or Emeralds. The exact loot table is not publicly documented, but aligns with the game's general reward structure for exploration finds.
| Possible Reward | Estimated Rarity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Gold, Wood, Iron | Common | Core resources for upgrades |
| Construction Speedup (30 min.) | Common | Useful in early game |
| Hero Experience Points | Moderate | Increases hero strength |
| Equipment pieces (Rare/Epic) | Rare | Random stat rolls |
| Emeralds | Very Rare | Premium currency |
| Smuggling Warrant | Rare | Used at the Black Market |
Several types of NPC ships move across the sea map and offer distinct encounter options. Merchant Ships are affiliated with NPC Guilds and can be attacked to obtain cooking and brewing ingredients. However, every attack on a Merchant Ship increases the player's Infamy and reduces Guild Relations with the affiliated faction. Smuggler Vessels carry rarer goods and yield more valuable loot after being sunk.
NPC Merchant Ships also appear dynamically on the trading routes of other players, adding variability to the open-sea experience.
Sea creatures such as the Kraken are fixed encounter points on the sea map. Up to five sea creatures can be fought per day, with each victory awarding Adventure Experience. Level 12 Krakens can drop Legendary equipment with random stat rolls. A separate Raid Boss Kraken can be challenged with a group of up to four players across three difficulty levels, up to three times per day.
| Encounter Type | Location / Activation | Rewards |
|---|---|---|
| Drifting Bottle | Random position on sea map | Resources, equipment, Emeralds (variable) |
| NPC Merchant Ship | Trade routes on the map | Cooking/brewing items, Gold; raises Infamy |
| Smuggler Vessel | Random position on sea map | Rare goods, Gold, Smuggling Warrants |
| Sea Creature (Solo) | Fixed map points | Adventure Experience, equipment (5× daily) |
| Raid Kraken (Group) | Special map, matchmaking | Legendary equipment, Honor Points (3× daily) |
| Floating Treasure | Treasure Map + Golden Compass | Trade goods, Emeralds, Gold |
| Mist Incidents | Undiscovered ports on map | Resources, permanent stat bonuses (Temples) |
Treasure Maps come in four rarity tiers: Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary. The Golden Compass is required to narrow down the exact treasure location. It provides 20 daily uses that recharge over time. Upon use, a ship filled with trade goods surfaces and can be sold at nearby ports for profit.
Legendary Treasure Maps offer the best rewards — especially large amounts of experience and Emeralds — but are often located near sea creatures that must be defeated first.
Undiscovered ports on the map are shrouded in Mist. A single Compass use clears the fog, allowing manual completion of all incidents. Three Compass uses trigger automatic clearing and deliver all rewards at once. Temples found on islands grant permanent attribute bonuses that stack with every temple visited across the entire map.
