PvP (player versus player) combat is a central element of Sea of Conquest. On the open seas, almost any player can become an attacker or a target. The game offers a mix of real-time naval battles and automated combat, where fleet composition, hero abilities, and tactical positioning are decisive. Understanding attack and defense mechanics is essential for protecting your resources and succeeding against other players.
New players enjoy a beginner's protection at the start of the game: until Flagship Level 8, or for the first 72 hours after starting, they cannot be attacked by other players. This window should be used to learn the basic mechanics and secure at least a second ship before the protection expires.
Sea of Conquest distinguishes between three fundamental combat modes:
| Combat Mode | Description | PvP Relevance |
|---|---|---|
| Naval Combat (Manual) | Player controls cannons by swiping and activates hero abilities manually; Rage builds up over time | Full control; best results when evenly matched |
| Auto-Combat | Simplified naval combat; heroes use abilities automatically; combatants must stay within range | Standard mode for most PvP encounters on the World Map |
| Close Combat | Automatic, turn-based combat without ships; each character moves once per turn | Rare in PvP; more common in story missions |
In auto-combat (the most common PvP mode on the World Map), the following rules apply:
Attack strategy against other players:
# Assess the target: Before attacking, evaluate the enemy's fleet strength, damage types, and hero composition. # Match your damage type: Artillery ships against fleet formations, Cutthroat ships against strong single targets (e.g., a well-equipped enemy flagship). # Exploit speed advantages: For hit-and-run tactics, prioritize fast ships that can disengage if the fight turns unfavorable. # Activate hero abilities manually: In manual naval combat mode, hero abilities can be the deciding factor — especially against evenly matched opponents. # Replenish sailors: Before PvP attacks, ensure your sailor reserves are fully topped up. After every fight, sailors are lost or injured — healing at a port is essential.
New players are protected from PvP attacks for the first 72 hours or until Flagship Level 8. This protection expires automatically; it is strongly recommended to secure a second ship and establish a basic fleet formation before this protection runs out.
In auto-combat mode, players can disengage from a fight by moving out of the attacker's weapon range. Building a fleet with higher speed than potential attackers creates a real chance for de-escalation. Fast ships and speed buffs provided by heroes or ship parts greatly increase survivability.
Belonging to an active and powerful Gang provides effective indirect protection:
The Infamy system governs PvP behavior and consequences:
| Infamy Trigger | Consequence |
|---|---|
| Killing other players | Infamy increases |
| Looting resources | Infamy increases |
| Attacking merchant ships | Infamy increases |
| Maximum Infamy reached | No resources gained from attacking other ships |
Players who have a bounty placed on them are considered fair targets regardless of any active treaties.
The optimal PvP fleet follows the principle: Flagship as an indestructible tank, companion ships as maximum damage sources.
| Ship Role | Priority | Recommended Setup |
|---|---|---|
| Flagship | Maximum HP and AMR | Sovereign o' the Sea set, tank heroes (Ahab, Armstrong) |
| Primary damage ship | Highest DPS | Cutthroat or Artillery ship depending on the target |
| Secondary damage | Supporting damage | Drowning or Blaze against heavily armored opponents |
| Support ship | Buffs and debuffs | Strategic ship with heroes that provide fleet buffs |
Hero development plays a central role in PvP performance:
The game's dynamic weather conditions can be used tactically:
