Overview

The Savvy Tree (also called Savviness Research) is a gang-wide passive upgrade system in Sea of Conquest. Unlike the personal Astrologer's Chamber (which grants individual research bonuses), the Savvy Tree provides bonuses to every gang member simultaneously. It is advanced collectively through gang donations and free daily speed-ups, making it one of the most powerful group-based progression systems in the game.

The game also features a separate set of personal Ship Technology Upgrades (Hull, Weapons, Engine, Crew) that directly improve the individual Flagship and fleet ships, independent of the Savvy Tree. A solid understanding of both systems — the Savvy Tree and Ship Tech — is essential for efficient progression.

Details

What Is the Savvy Tree?

The Savvy Tree is the gang-wide research system in Sea of Conquest. It operates similarly to the Astrologer's Chamber (personal research) but differs in two fundamental ways:

  • Gang-wide effect: Every node unlocked in the Savvy Tree applies to all active gang members, not just the contributor.
  • Collective funding: Research costs are drawn from the gang's shared treasury, funded by member donations.

Savvy Tree projects are expensive and time-consuming. Gang leaders and officers decide which nodes to research next. Coordinating contributions toward the same project significantly accelerates progress.

Savvy Point Acquisition: How to Earn Them

Because the Savvy Tree is a gang system, there are no individual “Savvy points” in the traditional sense. Progress is driven by the following mechanisms:

Mechanism Daily Limit Cost Reward
Wood / Iron / Gold donation 20 times per day Resources 10 Gang Seals per donation
Emerald donation Unlimited Emeralds Gang Seals
Free Savvy speed-ups 20 times per day Free Reduces research time
Gang Help feature Varies (Liaison Office level) None Reduces personal build time

A gang's daily income is also influenced by the number of unlocked Savvy nodes, controlled territory, gang power ranking, and weekly trophies — all of which feed back into the overall pace of Savvy progress.

Savvy Node Categories

The Savvy Tree covers multiple research categories with different focuses:

Category Example Nodes Primary Benefit
Combat Combat bonuses, damage amplification Improved combat stats for all members
Economy Warehouse Expansion, resource capacity Higher resource storage caps for all members
Exploration Gathering speed, movement range Faster resource collection across the map
Gang (Superpower) Mighty Gang, Expansion of Ranks Increased member cap, gang-wide superpowers

Notable Gang nodes:

  • Mighty Gang: Enhances the gang's collective combat bonuses for all members.
  • Expansion of Ranks: Increases the gang's maximum member capacity, enabling more contributors.
  • Superpower I, II, III: Legacy nodes with member-increase effects; adjusted in Patch v1.1.230.
Priority Node Type Rationale
1 Economy — Resource Capacity Immediately valuable for all members; removes storage bottlenecks
2 Economy — Gathering Speed Faster collection increases gang-wide total resource income
3 Gang — Expansion of Ranks More members means more donations and faster research overall
4 Combat — Base Bonuses Increased attack and defense values benefit all members in PvP
5 Gang — Mighty Gang Collective combat power bonus; especially valuable in PvP-focused gangs

Note: The optimal unlock order depends on the gang's goals (PvP vs. economy focus).

How Savvy Nodes Interact with Ship Tech Upgrades

The Savvy Tree and personal Ship Technology Upgrades are two separate, complementary systems:

  • Savvy Tree: Gang-wide passive bonuses — no direct effect on individual ship stats, but influences resource capacities, gathering speed, and collective combat bonuses.
  • Ship Technology: Individual upgrades for the personal Flagship and fleet ships.

The Savvy Tree amplifies the effectiveness of Ship Tech by ensuring all members have better resource access to fund personal upgrades more rapidly.

Ship Tech Upgrades in Detail

Ship technology covers four main upgrade areas applicable to the Flagship and all fleet ships:

Tech Area Primary Effect Priority Note
Hull (Rumpf) Increases HP and Armor (AMR) Highest priority for the Flagship
Weapons (Waffen) Increases Attack and damage output Priority for side ships
Engine / Propulsion (Antrieb) Increases sailing speed Important for trading and exploration
Crew (Besatzung) Increases crew capacity and efficiency Medium priority

Ship parts (Cannon, Sail, Figurehead, Navigation Helm) complement the tech upgrades. Parts can be enhanced using Starlight Shards, with bonus stats unlocked at enhancement levels 5, 10, and 15. Equipping 2 or 4 matching set pieces provides additional combat advantages.

Savvy Tree vs. Astrologer's Chamber: Comparison

Feature Savvy Tree Astrologer's Chamber
Scope Gang-wide bonuses Personal bonuses only
Funding Gang donations Personal resources
Control Gang leader / officers Individual player
Cost High, time-intensive Medium, individually scaled
Speed-ups 20 free per day Via gang help feature

Tips

  • Donate every day: Use all 20 daily donation slots and all 20 free Savvy speed-ups. They cost nothing personally and drive the entire gang's research forward.
  • Coordinate with your gang: Talk to leadership and fellow members so everyone's speed-ups go into the same research project — splitting contributions across multiple nodes is inefficient.
  • Choose an active gang: The Savvy Tree only advances as fast as the whole gang donates and accelerates. A small or inactive gang means minimal Savvy progress.
  • Prioritize Hull upgrades personally: In the Ship Tech system, Hull has the highest priority for the Flagship — HP is the decisive survival stat in every combat encounter.
  • Do not neglect the Astrologer's Chamber: While the Savvy Tree develops collectively, the personal Astrologer's Chamber provides immediate individual bonuses. Developing both systems in parallel is the most efficient approach.
  • Spend Gang Seals wisely: Gang Seals earned through donations can be exchanged in the Gang Market for Echo Conches, Hero Skill upgrade materials, and speed-ups — prioritize items that retain long-term value.
